4 quarts sliced cucumbers (do not use burpless cucumbers)
6 onions sliced
1/2 cup salt
5 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp tumeric
2 tbsp mustard seed
3 cups cider vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cover sliced cucumbers with water and add salt. Once salt is dissolved add ice to cover top and let stand 3 hours.
Drain and rinse cucumbers.
Place vinegar, sugar, tumeric, mustard seed and sliced onions in large pan and bring to a boil. Add cucumbers and heat to steaming but do not boil.
Place pickles in jars and pour hot liquid and spices over each jar to fill.
Water bath to seal.
