1/2 C chopped onion
4 T butter or margarine
3 T flour
2 C canned tomatoes
2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp pepper
6 C finely shredded cabbage
1/4 lb. mild cheddar cheese (could use Velveeta)
3 slices of bread

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Saute chopped onion in 3T butter until tender. Blend in flour until smooth. Add canned tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, and sugar. Cook finely shredded cabbage in a little boiling salted water for about 5 minutes. Lightly brown bread (cut into cubes) in 1 T butter. Cut cheese into cubes (or shredded). Arrange in layers the cabbage, tomato mixture, bread and cheese in 2 qt. casserole, ending with bread and cheese. Bake at 375º for 30 minutes.
