butter
milk

Directions:
Cover potatoes with water in a pot and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to medium and cook until soft (stick a fork into the pieces to check). Drain. Put into a dish large enough to use a mixer to mash the potatoes. Add about 1/4 stick butter to the potatoes before you mash them. Add salt to taste. Heat about 3/4 cup milk and add to the potatoes a small amount at a time until the potatoes are as creamy or thick as you like.

If you want garlic mashed potatoes, do as above and add 1/2 cup yogurt and 4 garlic cloves, minced.
