1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup shortening
1 tbsp vanilla extract

First beat eggs, then combine with remaining ingredients and mix well. Use with your favorite waffle iron according to its instructions.
