Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 Tbsps shortening
1 tsp salt
1/4 c sugar
1 cake of yeast or equivalent in loose form
1 1/2 c lukewarm water or warmed milk
3 1/2 c sifted flour
1 egg well beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Regular method:
Add shortening, salt, sugar and yeast to water; stir until shortening is melted. Stir in sifted flour, cover and set in a warm place, free from drafts to rise. When doubled in size add egg. Knead lightly and let rise again until doubles. Roll out to 1/2" thick on well floured area. Cut with biscuit cutter roughly 2" in diameter, crease in the center with dull knife, brush with melted butter in the fold, fold over, pinching dough on the sides to make a pocket book. Place on baking sheet brush tops with melted butter. Let rise and bake in hot oven (400 degrees F) about 20 min.

Bread Machine method:
Put milk or water in bottom of bread machine pan add melted shortening. Add salt, sugar, then lightly add the four on top (I add about an extra 1/2 c flour because I won't be kneading the dough, as the regular method does). Sprinkle bread machine yeast or rapid rising yeast over top. Turn machine on, dough cycle, most machines go thru a warm up stage then begin to mix. when the dough has been mixing for 5 minutes and the flour is totally incorporated add the beaten egg in. Let finish the dough cycle. when the cycle is finished, roll out to 1/2" thick on well floured area. Cut with biscuit cutter roughly 2" in diameter, crease in the center with dull knife, brush with melted butter in the fold, fold over, pinching dough on the sides to make a pocket book. Place on baking sheet brush tops with melted butter. Let rise and bake in hot oven (400 degrees F) about 20 min
