Bottom Layer:
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. maple syrup
pecans or other nuts (enough to sprinkle on the bottom of an 11x13 baking pan)
other optional ingredients could include cinnamon, raisins or coconut.

Egg mixture:
5 eggs
1 1/2 c. of milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Heat the sugar, butter and corn syrup on the stove until hot and melted. Spread on the bottom of lightly greased 11x13 baking pan. Sprinkle with pecans. Place the sliced bread over the sugar mixture, in two layers. Beat the eggs and pour in the milk and vanilla. Pour mixture over the bread. Put in refrigerator and soak overnight. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 30 minutes.
