Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 box of cake mix
All the ingredients needed to make cake.
1 box of ice cream

Directions:
Directions:
Make the cake mix as directed and pour into a large greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for about 15 minutes. Stay close to the oven and keep an eye on it until it's done. You don't want the cake to be over done - or else it will crack and crumble while constructing the cake.

Let it cool in the pan and cut it in quarters. Put the first layer on a big serving dish. If you are lucky enough to find an old fashioned box ice cream just rip the box off and slice about 2 and half pieces per layer. So you would need about 7 1/2 slices. If you get a box type with the removable lid- just get a strong pair of scissors and cut the box on the corners.

Lay the slices on the cake and make the ice cream fit the cake like a puzzle, put another layer of cake then ice cream and keep layering until done.

Put in the freezer and let it firm up before covering it with your preferred frosting; frosting, cool whip, whipping cream etc.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
You can be very creative with this cake. This is the cake that was made for many of the Potter children and grand children's birthdays - I have added room temperature hot fudge topping and spread it over the cake between the layers. I have shaved chocolate bars on top after covering it up with a large tub of cool whip. You can sprinkle M & M's on top as well. Have fun with it!

Some of the favorite combos are chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream (Mom's version), white/yellow cake with rocky road ice cream, white/yellow cake with strawberry ice cream. The combinations are endless! - Sarah Clawson
