1/2 lb butter
1/2 c Crisco
3 c sugar
6 large eggs
3 1/4 c plain flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 c milk
2 tsp vanilla flavor
1 tsp lemon flavor

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake 1 hour and 20 minutes and do not open the door for the first hour.

Cream butter, crisco, and sugar. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each egg. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Alternating with milk, add to creamed mixture. (Begin with dry ingredients and end with milk.)

After cake is done, cool in pan for 5 minutes then turn cake onto a wire rack. Place cake pan over the cake and let cool completely before uncovering the cake.

This recipe is well over 100 years old and was given to me by Jo Belton. Jo explained that by covering the cake with the cake pan while it cooled, the moisture remained in the cake.
