3/4 stick unsalted butter
1 oz. semisweet baking chocolate, chopped
1 large egg yolk
1 C. all-purpose flour
1-1/4 C. granulated sugar
2/3 C. unsweeted cocoa powder
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2-1/2 C. milk
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/3 C. packed light brown sugar

Microwave butter and chocolate in small bowl just until melted; stir with whisk to combine, then stir in egg yolk until well-blended. Whisk flour, 3/4 C. granulated sugar, 1/3 C. cocoa, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl until blended. Stir in 1/2 C. milk, the butter mixture and vanilla until smooth. Spread batter in ungreased baking dish. Mix remaining 1/2 C. granulated sugar, remaining 1/3 C. cocoa and brown sugar in small bowl until blended. Sprinkle over batter. Heat remaining 2 C. milk in microwave just until simmering. Slowly pour over mixture in baking dish - DON'T stir.
Bake 45 minutes at 350º. Spoon into dessert bowls. Serve immediately. Top with scoop of ice cream if desired.
