Directions:
For Biscuits: Mix flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat egg and milk; stir into dry ingredients until moistened. Turn onto lightly floured surface; roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2" biscuit cutter (do not cut with kitchen glass). Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450º F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
For Gunk: Melt butter and mix in flour. Add milk and slowly bring to boil while stirring constantly until thickened. Cut 3 hard boiled eggs into small pieces and add to gunk. Add salt & pepper to taste. Serve over biscuits. Variations include the addition of food coloring, small aspargus pieces or bacon rather than boiled eggs, using bacon drippings rather than butter for the gunk.
