4 cups, peeled, cored and thinly sliced apples
1 ½ cups sugar divided
½ tsp. cinnamon
¾ cups coarsely chopped walnuts
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
1 egg, well-beaten
½ cup evaporated milk
1/3 cup melted butter

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Places apples in the bottom of a buttered 8x8x2 inch baking dish.
In small bowl, combine ½ cup sugar, cinnamon, and ½ cups nuts. Sprinkle over sliced apples.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, remaining 1 cup sugar, egg, evaporated milk and butter. Mix until smooth and pour over apples. Sprinkle additional nuts on top of batter. Bake for 55 minutes. Serve warm or cool with whipped cream or ice cream. (This is half the recipe – can be doubled.)
