1 1/2 lb. hamburger
1 onion, diced
1-2 cloves minced garlic (optional)
3/4 C celery, diced
1/2 C green pepper, diced
2 C diced potatoes
2 carrots, grated
2 T parsley flakes
savory salt/ & or Italian seasoning to taste
6 Beef bouillon cubes, dissolved in boiling water
1/2 tsp pepper
1 T sugar
1 Worcestershire sauce
1 bay leaf
1 quart tomatoes with juice
1 quart water
small can tomato sauce

Directions:
Brown hamburger, drain. Add onions & celery. Cook 5 minutes or so. Add garlic and green pepper. Cook a few more minutes.Add other ingredients and simmer approximately 45 minutes. Add grated carrots last 15 minutes or so of cooking.

Sometimes I add chopped fresh spinach at the end of cooking. I've made it adding cooked barley. zucchini or what vegetables you have on hand can be added. It can be made with leftover roast beef as well. However, the hamburger gives it a rich flavor.
