1/8 lb. bacon, chopped fine
3/4 C Chopped onion
1 C finely chopped celery
1 C finely chopped carrots
1 1/8C chopped tomatoes
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp tarragon
1 bay leaf
1/4 C butter
1/4 C clam base(or seafood/chicken base)
1 1/4 C milk
1 1/2 C cream
1 C unpeeled potatoes, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Saute bacon over medium heat until almost crispy, about 4 minutes. Add onions, celery, carrots, tomatoes, black pepper, thyme, tarragon and bay leaf. Heat until carrots are tender, about 8 more minutes.
In a small saucepan, melt butter and stir in flour and heat 'til golden, stirring, about 3 minutes. Add to pot. Slowly stir in clam base, mild and heavy cream. Add potatoes and clams with juice and simmer until potatoes are soft, about 25 minutes.
