4 C All Bran Buds
2 C boiling water
2 C sugar
1 C shortening
4 eggs, beaten
1 qt buttermilk
5 tsp baking soda
5 C flour
2 C 100% bran
2 C chopped walnuts
2 C chopped dates or raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over bran buds, let stand 1 hour. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs, add dry ingredients and buttermilk. Add soaked bran and 100% bran, stir in nuts and raisins or dates. Bake in muffin cups @ 350º for 20-25 minutes. Makes about 8 dozen, but you can keep the batter in a sealed plastic bowl for about 6 weeks. After about 3 weeks, raise oven temp to 400º

I think you can tell by the name of these muffins that this is an old recipe! My mother always had a bowl of this batter in the refrigerator. But, they are good! So, if you find yourself buying bran muffins all the time, try these, I think you'll like them!
