"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Cream the salt, brown sugar, butter and shortening. Beat the 2 eggs and add them to the mixture along with the rest of the ingredients. Slowly mix together until flour is mixed, do not over mix.
Let stand overnight and cut or slice. Bake 10-12 minutes in a 375º-400º oven. Sprinkle with sugar. If you let stand over night make into a long roll. Slice off with a sharp knife. I usually roll mine out but let stand at least for awhile. (Nana speaking) Using part butter gives butter flavor. This dough will be real thick.

This is my favorite cookie. Nana always had them in a tin can for us to enjoy. They are best served with hot tea. I am not sure if they are Scandinavian, but Nana was Swedish!
