2 packages or 2 T. active dry yeast
3 c. warm water, divided
2 T. sugar, divided
1/4 c. vegetable oil
1 T. salt
8-81/2 c. flour

Directions:
In a mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1/2 c. warm water add 1 T. sugar and then let stand about 5 min. Add remaining water and sugar. Beat in oil, salt and 4 cups flour until smooth. Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic for about 6-8 min. Place in a greased bowl turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise 45 min. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface adn divide into 18 pieces. Shape pieces into ovals. Place 2 in. apart on a greased baking sheet. With scissors cut a 1/4 in. slash across the top of each. Cover and let rise 20 min. Bake at 400º for 13-18 min until golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.
