1/2 C. Shortening
1 C. Sugar
1 Egg
2 Squares (2 oz) Baking Chocolate
2 1/4 C. Flour
2 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
3/4 C.Buttermilk
1 C chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Combine shortening and sugar, add egg. Add melted chocolate. Combine dry ingredients and add to mixture. Add buttermilk. Add nuts and vanilla. Drop rounded teaspoon full of dough onto cookie sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes.

Another version. As soon as cookies come out of oven, top with 1/2 large marshmallow. Cool. Frost with chocolate frosting.
