1 c. dried Great Northern Beans
6 c. Chicken broth
1 c. chopped onion
1 oz bacon, cut up
2 T oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 14 1/2 oz or 176 oz can plum tomatoes, cut up
2 t dried basil
1 t dried thyme
1/2 t pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Pick over and rinse beans. Soak in 4 cups water, covered, overnight. Drain, rinse twice. In large kettle, combine broth and beans; bring to boil. Simmer for 1 hour. In skillet, cook bacon until almost done; add onion and garlic; saute until soft. Add to beans with undrained tomatoes and herbs. Bring to boil, simmer 45 minutes to 1 hour. Add salt to taste.
