1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c butter
1/2 c shortening

1 egg
1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 c chopped nuts
2 c sifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugars, butter and shortening. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well. Make dough into size of walnuts. Dip walnut shaped dough into cold water and then dip in sugar. Place dough on greased cookie sheet with sugar side up. Press dough lightly with fork.

Bake 375º for 7-8 minutes.

It's important to use half butter and half shortening. If you use all butter, the cookies are really good, but they're really flat.
