3/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 2 tbsp hot water
1 3/4 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt

Filling for Date squares
1/2 pound of dates
1 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, add sugar, flour, oats, salt and soda. Divide the mixture in half, and press down into a 9x9 pan. Mix the filling in a pot until thick, cool before spreading.
Crumble the remaining mixture on top of the filling. Bake at 375ºF oven for 30 minutes.

Love it! The only problem is that not everyone likes date squares, and it makes a whole big pan.
