1 c. toor dal
1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
1/3 tsp. red chili powder
2 tomatoes
2 tbs. vegetable oil
1 Small onion
3 Green Chilies
2 1/2 c. Water
A few cumin seeds
A few mustard seeds
Curry leaves (found in Indian Grocery stores)
A few cloves of garlic
Tamarind water or Tamicon (available at Walmart)
Salt

Directions:
Combine 1 cup of Toor dal and 2 1/2 cups of water in a large pot. Add a pinch of salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and chopped tomatoes. Cover the pot and cook for about 15 minutes, or until dal is cooked. Pour a cup of water into the pot and mix.
Fry mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, cut onions, crushed garlic, green chilies, and 1 tsp. of tamicon and mix it in the pot of dal. Add salt to taste and stir.
