Syrup: 1/2 cup sugar
3 cups water
1 cup sugar
1 lump butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pinch salt
Dumplings: 1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 lump butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pinch salt

Directions:
Directions:
Burn 1/2 cup sugar. Add 3 cups water and 1 cup sugar. Boil 4 or 5 minutes. Add lump of butter, vanilla, and pinch of salt.
Dumplings -- Mix all ingredients together and drop by spoonfuls in the hot syrup. Put in oven and bake till brown.
