2 cups white or yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup melted oleo

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients; add beaten egg, onion and buttermilk, oleo and water. Mix well and drop by tablespoonful into deep hot oil (360º - 375º). Cook until golden brown,. When they float, they are cooked. Remove and drain, serve hot. Makes 25 to 30 hush puppies. (To make crisper hush puppies drop by teaspoonful).
