"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
12 slices very thin white bread ( crust removed)
1 stick margarine
1/2 cup sugar
grated rind of large orange

Directions:
Directions:
In medium sized bowl, cream together margarine & sugar. Add grated orange zest. Cut the slices of bread in half & lay on an ungreased cookie sheet. Spread the mixture rather thickly on each half, making certain the mixture goes all the way to the edges. Bake in a slightly warm oven ( in other words, don't preheat the oven, just turn it on for a few minutes before you are ready to use) at 325 or less if your oven tends to run hot for 20 to 25 minutes. It might be less, you must watch carefully, because you do not want them to brown to quickly. They are ready when they are a golden color. Cool on a wire rack. Keep in a tightly closed container, separated by wax paper, in the refrigerator. Will keep well for quite a while & can be frozen.

Personal Notes:
I usually double this recipe, because they disappear so fast. This recipe sounds strange, but it sure is yummy. I serve these toasts with tea. I know Fran would love these because they are so unusual & we all know how unique she was.
