1 1/2 C. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 C. shortening
1/2 C. granulated sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 egg
2 to 3 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients together. Cream sugars and shortening. Add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to sugar mixture. Add nuts. Shape into roll 2" in diameter. Refrigerate. Slice 1/4" thick. Bake at 375º for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Grandbertie always made these at Christmas. We would sneak into the pantry on McCue Road and get them from her gallon glass jars, which always housed the cookies, and eat until we were sick.
