2 T butter
1 onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 small red bell pepper, chopped
salt and pepper
1/2 tsp sugar
tabasco sauce
1/4 C flour
2 1/2 C fish stock
14 oz can chopped tomatoes
1 1/2 C chopped mushrooms
1 1/4 C milk
8 oz white fish, cut in pieces
4 oz smoked cod, cut into pieces
12-18 mussels, cleaned
chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Melt butter in large pan and cook onion and garlic gently 'til softened but not brown. Add red pepper, season with salt and pepper, sugar and Tabasco. Sprinkle the flour over and cook gently for 2 minutes, stirring. Gradually stir in stock and add tomatoes and mushrooms. Boil over medium heat and simmer gently until the veges are soft. Add milk and bring back to boil. Add fish and simmer for 3 minutes. Add mussels and cook another 3-4 minutes 'til fish is tender but not breaking up. Discard any closed mussels.
Ladel into bowls and serve. Garnish with parsley.
