1 egg
1 cup brown sugar (packed loosely)
1 tsp. vanilla

1/3 cup shortening

1 cup sifted pastry flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Mix egg, brown sugar, and vanilla. Beat well.
Add melted shortening. Beat well
Combine flour, baking powder, raisins, nuts and chocolate chips.
Mix the two mixtures.
Spread in a greased 9 x 9 pan.
Bake at 350º for 20 minutes.
The corners should be firm, the center soft.
Cool slightly before cutting.

This recipe came from Mother Turpen who was Papa's Grandmother. Papa fondly remembered staying with her as a child. As she brushed out her long hair in the evenings she would tell him stories about his Grandfather, Aaron Marion Turpen.
