1 T. Crisco
1 tsp. salt
3 eggs
Milk - consistency to roll and cut

Directions:
Directions:
Mix salt with flour. Cut Crisco into flour mixture. Add slightly beaten eggs to flour mixture. Add enough milk to make a ball that is rollable. Dust generous flour on pastry board before rolling. Cut into wide 2" wide and 4-6" long strips and drop in broth. Cook about 10 minutes.

This makes a 'tough' Southern dumpling, not the puffy ones that Yankees prefer. I never remember mother making a 'puffy dumplin.' Ma Conner always put a pinch of baking powder in hers to make them a little more tender, but not mother.
