Ingredients: 1 pkg Devil's Food Cake Mix
3/4 cup sugar 1 cup water 1/3 cup Kirsch or Cherry Brandy
3 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup powdered sugar 1/4 cup Kirsch
1 cup maraschino cherries drained and chopped
1 8 oz bittersweet or milk chocolate bar

Directions:Prepare cake according to package directions. Bake in three 8 inch layers. (Line pans with waxed paper.) Bake for approx.20-25 minutes. Cool.
Prepare syrup: Mix sugar and water in small saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Cool. Stir in Kirsch or Cherry Brandy Place cake layers on waxed paper. Brush on syrup.
Toppings and fillings: Beat whipping cream until slightly thickened. Sift confectioner's sugar over cream and continue beating until cream holds stiff peaks. Add Kirsch and beat until liqueur is absorbed.
Assemble: Place one layer in middle of cake plate. Spread with 1/2 inch of whipped cream. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped cherries. Add the second layer of cake and repeat process. After adding third layer, coat top and sides with whipped cream filling. (Freeze after initial coat of whipped cream then spread a final coat over top.) Place remaining cream in pastry bag and trim cake. Make chocolate curls with a vegetable peeler and sprinkle on top of cake. Place reserved cherries in center. |

Notes: Freeze, then cover with plastic wrap. Uncover before you thaw. Keep refrigerated. Remaining cake may be refrozen.
