"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

2 pounds ground beef
1/2 pound Neese's sausage,( or use any ground bulk sausage, but not hot!)

1/2 green pepper, finely minced
1 beaten egg
4 TB catsup
1/4 cup milk
15 crumbled soda crackers
1 T Worcester
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Directions:
Mix all ingredients together thoroughly. I don't know any way to do this except with your bare hands! Bake at 350º, in a loaf pan, for one hour.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is classic old style southern cooking! Nobody's idea of health food, but it sure is good! I suppose you could lighten a bit with lean beef, egg substitute, and maybe replace the crackers with oatmeal....but it wouldn't be the same as the way we Burtons all remember it! Meatloaf sandwiches are great too, especially with melted Provolone or Swiss cheese on a toasted crusty bread.
