3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening. Remove from heat and let cool.Add sugar, molasses, and egg. Beat well. Sift flour, baking soda and spices. Add to first mixture. Mix well. Chill. Form into 1" balls, roll in granulated sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake in 375 º oven for 8-10 minutes.
