Apricot and Nut Rolls Recipe

1 package yeast
1/4 cup warm water
2 cups flour
3/4 cup margarine
1 egg
powdered sugar


For Apricot Filling:
1 cup dried apricots
1/2 cup sugar
4 oz. cream cheese


For Nut Filling:
4 oz. cream cheese
1/2 cup sugar
juice of 1/2 orange
1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Rolls:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Mix flour, margarine, egg and yeast together. Divide into two parts. Roll each part in powdered sugar. Use filling of your choice.

Apricot Filling:
Cook apricots and sugar. Add cream cheese. Roll dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Spread mixture on dough and roll like a jelly roll. Slit the roll down the middle with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.

Nut Filling:
Mix cream cheese, sugar and orange juice. Roll on dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Spread mixture on dough. Sprinkle nuts on top of mixture. (Do not mix nuts with sugar and cheese). Roll like a jelly roll. Slit the roll down the middle with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.

This recipe has been past down through my family for generations. My great-grandparents immigrated from Czechoslovakia and I have vivid memories of my grandmother cooking both Apricot and Nut rolls. They are delicious and a true part of my family history.
