2 unbeaten egg whites
1 1/2 c sugar
2 t light corn syrup or 1/4 t cream of tartar
1/3 c cold water
dash of salt
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Put all ingredients except vanilla on top of a double boiler. Beat 1/2 minute at low speed and then place over boiling water (don't allow top pan to touch boiling water). Cook, beating constantly until frosting forms stiff peaks (about 7 minutes). Remove from boiling water add vanilla. Beat until spreading consistency (about 2 minutes).

This frosting is perfect for devil's food cake or coconut cake. Make sure you serve the cake quickly because 7 minute frosting tends to "disappear" into the cake!
