Ingredients:  
Combine 1 cup chopped dates and 1 cup boiling water; cool to room temperature. Cream 2/3 cup shortening and 1 cup sugar. Add 1 tsp vanilla and 2 eggs, beating well.
Sift together:
1 3/4 cup flour
2 T.Cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Add to creamed mixture alternately with date mixture, beating after each addition. Spread in greased 13 x 9" pan. Sprinkle 1 -6 oz pkg chocolate chips, 1/2 cup cherry chips and 1 cup chopped nut meats on top. Bake in 350º
oven until done. Cool in pan, cut into squares and serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
