1/2 cup shortening
1 2/3 granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
two 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 milk
1/2 chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream 1/2 cup shortening, 1 2/3 cups granulated sugar, and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Beat in 2 eggs, then two 1-ounce unsweetened chocolate, melted.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt; add alternately with milk. Add 1/2 cup nuts.
Chill 3 hours. Form 1-inch balls; roll in confectioners'' sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet 2 to 3 inches apart. Bake in moderate oven 350º for 15 minutes. Cool slightly; remove from pan. Makes 48.
