1 c. water
1 pack yeast (scant T.)
¼ c. sugar
1 teas.
2 T. shortening
1 egg
1 T. water
3 1/3-4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
1)Dissolve yeast in water in bowl. Add sugar and regular salt, shortening, egg and 2 c. flour. Beat until smooth. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough cover tightly and refrigerate over night.

2)Turn dough out onto lightly floured board. Divide in half and cut each half into 8 equal pieces. Roll into pencil shapes about twenty inches long. Shape into pretzels and place on cookie sheets. (blend egg yolk and one tablespoon water, brush pretzels with egg yolk mixture and sprinkle with salt, let rest about 10 min. Bake 15 min. @ 400º
