1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. milk
2 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 400 and grease muffin tins. In a small pan melt shortening. Break egg into mixing bowl and beat slightly. Stir in melted shortening and milk. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together and mix with other ingredients. Stir just enough to moisten dry ingredients. Batter should be lumpy. Spoon into muffin tins, filling each about 2/3 full. Cook 20-25 minutes.

Instead of using muffin tins put batter in a greased square pan (8x8). Cover with the following topping mix:
2 T. sugar
2 T. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
