1 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 packages yeast ( active dry or compressed)
1 tsp. Sugar
1/4 c. lukewarm water (for yeast)
2 eggs
3 1/4 c. flour
1/3 c. almonds, chopped
Butter Topping:
1/2 c. butter, cut
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:

Scald milk and add the 1/2 c. sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast and i tablespoon of sugar in warm water then stir into cooled milk mixture. Beat eggs with 1 cup of flour. Add the rest of the flour alternately with milk-yeast mixture, mixing well after each addition. Pour into greased 9x13 baking pan, spreading dough evenly. Set in warm place to rise (about 45 minutes). Sprinkle the butter topping and almonds evenly over top and bake at 375º for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
Butter topping: Cut butter sugar and cinnamon together until fine crumbs develop.
