3 cups sugar
1 cup cold water
1 cup milk
1/4 lb. creamery butter (add bit by bit)
1/8 tsp. soda (add to milk)
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Boil water and sugar until syrup. Add soda to the milk, then add butter , bit by bit, then boil until hard ball stage, when tested in cold water. Add vanilla. Then pour on marble slab to cool. Pull on hook and cut with scissors. (DON'T STIR AFTER WATER AND SUGAR START TO BIOIL).
