whole chicken cut up
1 celery stick
1/2 an onion
4 c. of water
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

Dumplings:
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 egg (well beaten)
2 tbsp. melted shortening
1 cup of milk

Directions:
Directions:
Bring water to a boil and add chicken, celery, onion, salt and pepper.
Turn down, partially cover and simmer until chicken is tender. (About an hour)

Dumplings:
Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
Combine egg, shortening, and milk. Mix well.
Add egg mixture to flour mixture. Stir only until dry ingredients are moistened.
Drop batter by rounded tablespoons into stew. Leave uncovered for 10 minutes and then cover for 10 minutes.
