1 lb. dried pinto beans
6 cups of water
1 ham hock
1 large onion, chopped
2 T chili powder
3 tsp. garlic powder
4 tsp. chicken bullion granules
2 tsp. cumin
salt and ground pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
1. Wash and sort through beans. Place beans in large pot and cover with 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil and boil for two minutes. Remove from heat, cover and soak for one hour. Drain water.
2. Add 6 more cups of hot water to beans in pot. Add ham hock, onion and stir in spices.
3. Simmer for 2 to 2 1/2 hours until tender.

These beans have been perfected by David Gray. My husband says that they are better than his own grandmother's pinto beans but, don't tell her that....shhh! =)
