4 cups sifted flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup butter
2 eggs, slightly beaten
5 apples, sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine first 3 ingredients. Cut in butter till it looks like coarse cornmeal. Add eggs; mix well. Chill dough. Spread 3/4 of dough in bottom of greased pan. Pour apples on top. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.

Press remaining dough flat with palm of hand. Cut into strips; arrange criss cross fashion over apples. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes.

Glaze with powdered sugar glaze to which you add almond extract.
