2 cups oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 cup shortening, melted and cooled
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
In mixing bowl, combine oatmeal, sugars, flour and salt. Combine hot water and baking soda. Stir in oatmeal mixture with shortening and vanilla.
Roll into walnut size balls. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake 350 for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to stand for 2 minutes before removing from pan. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.
