1/3 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 to 1 c. semisweet chocolate pieces
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanilla, beat well. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture, mix well. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts. Spread in 11x7x1 1/2 inch pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 20-25 minutes. Cut into bars while warm.
