1 c. shortening
1/2 c. plus 2 T. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 egg yolks (save whites)
2 c. sifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. crushed nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add next 4 ingredients, mixing with hands if necessary. Roll into balls size of small walnuts. Dip into slightly beaten egg whites. Roll into nuts, put onto cookie sheet and press flat. Bake 5 minutes at 375 degrees (baking rack should be above center of oven). Remove from oven and press center of each cookie with finger. Return to oven to bake 5 minutes longer. Put jam into each depression and bake 2 minutes longer.
