1 c butter
2 1/4 c brown sugar
1 c light corn syrup
1 -14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Generously butter a 9x9 pan. In a 3 qt. sauce pan melt butter. Add sugar and a dash of salt. Stir thoroughly. Stir in corn syrup. Gradually add condensed milk, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat stirring occasionally, to a firm ball ( 245 º about 15 - 20 minutes.) Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and pour into pan. Cool and cut into squares. Wrap squares in plastic.

* to make chocolate caramels add 2 oz square of unsweetened chocolate with condensed milk.

Also works well for caramel apples
