Italian Cut-Out Cookies Recipe

2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
1-1/2 tsp. anise extract
3 eggs

ICING
1 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. milk
Food coloring, if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Work in shortening.

Stir in anise extract and unbeaten eggs, and dump dough on floured board. Knead until smooth. If dough is sticky, add a little flour.

Divide dough into halves. Roll each half 1/4" thick, and cut with cookie cutters.

Place on greased or nonstick cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes until golden. While warm, glaze cookies with the icing, adding food coloring if you like.
