1 c. red beans
2/3 c. lentils
2/3 c. green split peas
2/3 c. white navy beans
1 c. brown rice
1 tsp. black pepper
1 T. basil
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. cumin
1 bay leaf
1/2 c. instant minced onions

Layer beans in a jar or bag 1/3 cup at a time in this order; red beans, lentils, green split peas, white navy beans. REPEAT, and end with 1 more layer of red beans. Place rice and seasonings in a separate bag. Cooking directions: Place rinsed beans in a pot with 3 qts. of water. Bring to a rapid boil. Reduce heat, cover and continue a low boil for 60 - 70 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. After this time, add other ingredients and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Ham, sausage and diced tomatoes could be added if desired.
