2 onions
1/2 green pepper
3 tbsp. oil
2 lb beef ( use good quality or it will be tough)
1/2 c flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 1/2 c hot water
1/2 c tomato sauce and a little sugar( or catsup)
4 carrots
4 potatoes quartered
celery and mushrooms ( pick your amount to taste)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp oxo
add thyme and sherry for extra flavor, s&p

Directions:
Gently saute sliced onions and green pepper in oil. In bag, shake cubed meat in flour salt and pepper. Brown meat then cover with tomato sauce; simmer 2 hours. Add vegetables and seasonings. Cover and simmer until tender.
OPTIONAL 25-20 min. before serving stew, make dumplings.
Mix 2c flour,3 tsp baking powder,1 tsp salt. Combine 4 tbsp. oil,2/3 c milk and 2 beaten eggs .Add to dry ingredients to make a soft dough.20 - 25 min before serving time, drop form tsp into stew.Cover tightly and cook over low heat to gently boil the stew for 25 min.
