Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cube butter
2 cups sugar, divided
1 cup flour
1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
¾ cup milk
2 cups sliced peaches (or berries)--enough to make a single layer scattered across the whole pan, up to about 4 cups

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in 9 x 13” pan (in the oven, which you are preheating to 350 degrees).

Mix 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, milk. Pour this mixture over the butter in the pan. Do not stir. On top of this, add enough fruit to scatter across the whole pan (2-4 cups)

Sprinkle over the peaches, but don’t mix:
1 cup sugar
Bake about 30 minutes at 350 degrees, or until the fruit is soft and the crust golden brown. The more fruit you use, the longer the baking time.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is in Favorite Recipes of Home Economics Teachers: Desserts, which I got in 1966 at a wedding shower given by my colleagues at Turlock High School, where I taught for a year. If I don’t have fresh peaches, I use thawed frozen ones (without sugar). You can use berries instead if that’s what you have.

Susan gave this recipe to Christina, who uses it to make blackberry cobbler. In July, Chris and Isaac take their buckets and go to the end of their street in Boulder Creek, where there are lots of berry bushes. They pick enough for a really fresh berry cobbler and surprise John when he comes home from work.
